Cast Iron Kettlebells and Competition Kettlebells
Kettlebells are a must-have in any home gym or gym facility. SMAI offers an extensive range of kettlebells, including Cast Iron Kettlebells, Competition Kettlebells, and Premium Kettlebells Set.
What type of Kettlebells should I get?
Cast Iron Kettlebell
Each type of kettlebell has different benefits. The SMAI Cast Iron Kettlebell has been cat from a single unit, meaning no welds on the handle. The Cast iron kettlebell becomes larger in size as the weight increases (Competition Kettlebells are uniform in size). Because of the smaller physical size, a cast iron kettlebell is suitable for beginners as the smaller physical size is easier to handle
Competition Kettlebells
Competition kettlebells are built to higher standards with smaller weight variance thresholds. Competition Kettlebells are a uniform shape and size across the entire weight range - in effect this means an 8kg Competition Kettlebell is the same physical size as a 32kg Competition Kettlebell. The weight variance is achieved via a thicker sidewall for heavier kettlebells. Avoid cheaper alternatives that will have a hollow core and be filled with rubble. Our Competition Kettlebells have a solid base, no exposed hole and no fill. This creates an evenly balanced kettlebell that is not biased to any side.
Steel Kettlebells vs Cast Iron Kettlebells
Steel Kettlebells and Cast Iron Kettlebells will both be very hard-wearing. Steel has better rust resistance, while Cast Iron is slightly harder and will be more resilient, however both choices will make for an excellent kettlebell that last for a lifetime.
What are the differences between competition kettlebells and cast iron kettlebells?
Competition kettlebells maintain a consistent size, shape, and handle thickness regardless of their weight. This uniformity ensures you won't have to adjust your grip or forearm position, allowing you to focus on maintaining consistent technique across different weights. Made from steel, these kettlebells offer superior durability and longevity compared to cast iron alternatives.
In contrast, cast iron kettlebells vary in physical dimensions and handle thickness as their weight increases. The space between the handle and the kettlebell body also changes slightly with each size. Although cast iron kettlebells are more affordable than competition kettlebells, they are crafted from solid cast iron and coated with a durable powder finish for long-lasting use
Powder Coated Kettlebells
Powder coating is favoured for workout gear like kettlebells due to its numerous benefits. It creates a hard, resilient surface that resists chipping, scratching, and fading, essential for equipment that endures frequent rough handling and impacts. Additionally, the coating provides a protective layer against rust and corrosion, crucial for metal items exposed to sweat and moisture. The textured finish enhances grip, reducing slippage during workouts and ensuring safety and effectiveness. Powder coating also offers a wide range of colours and finishes, making products visually appealing, which can attract consumers. Lastly, the smooth, non-porous surface is easy to clean, aiding in maintaining hygiene in workout environments.
