The CrossFit Open is about to begin! In the next few weeks, considering they’ve appeared every year since The Open’s beginning, you'll probably be doing some toes to bar, double-unders, and thrusters. Regardless, sometimes the mental game is more challenging than the physical when it comes to competition. So this year, we asked Georgia Pryer, CrossFit athlete and coach at Snake Athletic, for her top tips for mentally preparing for the upcoming weeks of Open workouts.
1. Trust yourself
So ‘The Open’ is a big deal, but we seem to put so much pressure on it ourselves and end up making it a bigger deal than it needs to be. We worry that the workouts will be so tough (I mean, they are), but really this is the same way we train.
We need to trust the work we have put in and trust that our minds and bodies will do the same thing they have done day in and day out. You’ve got this!
2. Learn From IT
There’s always something to take away from a workout. Be excited that you can use each week as a tool to help you find something that you need to work on.
Yes, you may find weaknesses but don’t forget you can find strengths too! When a WOD comes up that you know is your jam, you're learning to know when to go for it, and that's a gift in itself.

3. Enjoy Every. Single. Second.
It's the most obvious one but the one most easily forgotten. Enjoy the hurt locker and being in pain with your buddies. Admire watching them as they PR and then appreciate the moment when hitting your own PRs. Even just enjoy the community around you; they’re all backing you. This is the time of year that the community vibe and spirit is at an all-time high, so take it all in and love every moment. We CrossFit for a reason, so don't forget to enjoy what you love.
